Travel Near and Far

Certainly, travel is more than seeing of the sights, it is a change that goes on,
deep and permanent, in the ideas of living
- Miriam Beard

From our family vacation.....to the capital of our great country....this was a lesson in history, philosophy and living.  Time together as a family, just us, no dishes to wash, home repairs to complete, laundry to do, birthday parties to attend.  I love this time when there is no distractions from connecting with each other.  I feel so grateful for this time to just be with each other, learning and loving together.

I also love exploring a new place, the history, how our world is so big and small, different yet so very familiar.  I loved walking hand in hand with my darlings taking it all in, learning about how and why, when and where.  Learning with them, and at times, being the teacher.  These memories will hopefully carry me through the next transition - back to school - ahhhh!

Here is to travelling near and far with those you love the most....

Try the Tri...

Getting ready
Swim Baby Swim

Ride like the wind

Well, this is a new adventure...the 'try a tri' or the 'give it a tri'....the beginner triathlon experience.  I needed a new adventure, something to take me out of the everyday, shake things up, and luckily I was able to do it with friends, where the focus really was on having fun, completing your own race, and being in it together.  This was a totally new experience for me and I was not nervous until the morning of the race when I went to register and looked around and realized...I was really going to do this!

I loved that this was done with friends, for fun, and that everyone after enjoyed their achievements and still swam with the kids in the lake after all was said and done.  I love that these pictures represent a zest for life, a passion for something outside work, sleep, etc....

So would I do it again...stay tuned....

Run Baby Run...

This awesome photo taken by my talented husband is of me and the darlings on the airport runway during a 5k charity race.  The runway is shut down for all to come and enjoy a sneak peak into the behind the scenes of the airport.  The three of us are pretending to be airplanes...I love this picture...there is so much right about it...the light attitude of it (we are having fun people!), the family connectedness...the sense of unity...being outdoors together...and being active....so much right about it.  Also, I was so proud of my daughters for run/walking the entire 5k course.  They seem to listen to their body, run when they could, walk when they needed, and crossed the finish line running and smiling to receive a very cool drink of water and eyes of love and pride from their mamma!

Everyday they teach me so much....feel free to enjoy more of my husbands photography by visiting his blog...http://images720.blogspot.ca/

The List

The bookstore...and beyond...climb up

Art...Creation..Explore

Beauty...Beauty....Breathe it all in...

Thinks I am thinking about lately..

1.  Imagining a world where political leaders were ethical, moral, responsive and interested in leadership for the great good

2. The ever-changing weather...first it's spring...then it's fall...then its summer....all in one day, and one week!

3.  The desire to live the creative life...what would a studio I could design look like.?

4.  Training for another half-marathon...could I do it..what would it feel like the second time around

5.  What does it feel like to live and be in a house that is totally clean and organized?

6.  Flowers are amazing, how did we get so lucky as to have them as part of our being? our world?

7.  Getting older, the upsides and the journey, what can I learn from it all right now....

8.  How strange, scary, energizing and beautiful life can be sometimes...

9.  My oldest daughter wants to add that she is thinking about cake and summer break...all things to look forward too

10.  My youngest says (in song) ....summer!!

11.  Sleeping in really is the ultimate gift

12.  Being thankful my body is capable of some much...being impatient it does not do more

13.  My first upcoming triathlon experience

14.  Why love really does shape your soul

15.   Add your own in here!!!

Waking

I love the outdoors and am always so thankful when the warmth, sun, and clear skies are upon us.  It calls me outside, smiles at me, encourages me to start moving, slowly if that makes sense, and explore.  Explore, notice, watch, breathe and sink in.  I love the chance to be both distracted and centered all at the same time.  I also feel thankful when I get to be outside and in the warmth with the ones I love the most.  It is like we are all our better selves when we are hiking, walking, gathering sticks, playing in the mud, throwing our sweaters off and taking a cool drink while sitting on the ground.  Nature heals.

It has been especially helpful as I have not been able to run - I love running.  I am somewhat injured and can not run just yet.  I find it really hard.  I have not been able to bike or swim either.  It will get better and I will hit the road and trails again.  It reminds me that we need to listen to our bodies (whether we want to our not) and be thankful for what works.  Thankful in general.  So here is to more outdoor time and getting lost and finding your inner love.

The Fast Song

Today we have a guest blogger....my youngest daughter...who has written and composed an amazing song.  The title is "The Fast Song" Here are the words...

Chocolate chips and ravioli in my bowly

The sun is shining in a bathtub

The twinkling stars - its a bar

Oooohhhhhhhhh

Mmmmmmmmm

The end

(Repeat until it gets so fast you can no longer sing it!!!)

There are hand movements as well....you can also add your own hand movements that you make up

The youngest chose the picture today because she said if you put chocolate chips and ravioli and you mix it together and put the sun shining on it for heat and it is like putting it in the oven, like a bathtub, the twinkling stars show for the night time and if you put all the tings together it would make a cake.

Enjoy!!!!

April Musings...Looking Back...Moving Forward

Our love pooch
The Easter Bunny is coming...

April is upon us...and none too soon...winter has far overstayed his welcome and we are all begging Spring to arrive and settle in, not just tease us with possibilities!

I have been looking back a bit, thinking about this time last year...I need no reminders that it was around this time last year that our dear, sweet, furry, cuddly and full of warmth fur friend Freud passed away.  I think of Freud so often.  I keep looking under my feet worried I will step on him, or make room on my lap for him to cuddle, or think - time to go for a walk and then I remember he is not there, no longer with us, and my heart feels heavy and I take a deep breath.  I can still feel his warmth and very much miss his comforting presence.  Sigh.

Staying focused on the present I am thankful for the laughter and joy that my darlings seem to exude for every holiday or celebration!!!  I watched them explode in delight at the prospect of Easter egg hunting, the Easter Bunny and of course...chocolate!!!  I love their energy, sense of joy and pure delight.  I am so thankful for them, for their health, their beauty, smarts and general loveliness!!

Moving onto the future, I have been thinking about how to get more energy!!!  Watching the girls, and getting through the workday, I have noticed just how often I feel tired or lacking some oomph..some get up and go..some liveliness....you get the picture.  I am trying really hard now to get lots and lots of greens, vegetables, fruit and exercise into my day to day.  I broke down and allowed myself the luxury of one of those high powered blenders - which makes this goal just that little bit easier!  I will let you know how it goes....
